Maggie Borowitz


Maggie is a PhD candidate whose research focuses on the relationship between art and politics in late twentieth-century Latin America. Engaging with theories of affect and feminism, her dissertation, entitled “Caught by Surprise: Intimacy and Feminist Politics in the work of Magali Lara,” considers alternative forms of political art in 1970s and 80s Mexico City. She was the 2019–20 Mellon COSI Research Fellow in Modern and Contemporary Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, and her dissertation research is supported by a 2020–21 Fulbright-Hays Fellowship and a 2021–22 Franke Institute for the Humanities Non-Residential Dissertation Completion Fellowship.
