Open Box: Looms and Fibers

Join us in the Visual Resources Center in CWAC 257 for “Open Box” on Wednesday February 19th from 11AM–1PM featuring a live demo of backstrap loom weaving by Art History PhD student Sofia Ortega-Guerrero. “Open Box” is a drop-in event where a selection of objects from the Joel Snyder Materials Collection will be out of storage to handle and engage with; this session will feature textile- and weaving-related materials such as wool, backstrap looms, overshot samples, and a frame loom. Stop by to talk textiles and learn about the JSMC and its more than 840 unique objects available to students and instructors.
Please note that the event location is on the second floor of the Cochrane-Woods Art Center, which is accessible only by stairs. To request an accommodation or alternative format, please email visualresources@uchicago.edu.
