Luke Fidler

Biography

Luke Fidler studies the history of early- and high-medieval art, with a particular focus on the relationship between aesthetics and ideology. His dissertation examines these issues in the Baltic region during the reign of Duke Henry the Lion of Bavaria and Saxony. In addition to his scholarly work, Luke regularly contributes criticism on contemporary art to a variety of venues and works on issues surrounding limited access to art historical training, teaching with the Prison + Neighborhood Arts Project and the Odyssey Project. He has worked as Preceptor for the Art History undergraduate major, and taught classes on American, ancient, and medieval art with special emphases on imperialism, underrepresented figures, and hands-on learning in museum collections.
