Giving

The University of Chicago's Department of Art History enters its second century as a leader of innovative teaching and research in a multi-faceted, resource-intensive discipline.

The exceptional work of our students, alumni, and faculty continues to receive increased recognition around the nation and the globe. Throughout the years, the generosity of our supporters has helped to create new opportunities throughout the Department.

These include, for example, the Gold-Gorvy Traveling Seminar, which gives graduate and undergraduate students and accompanying faculty direct access to the artworks, cultural objects or buildings they are studying; the Bross and Smart Lecture series, which bring scholars from outside the university to present public lectures; the Rhoades Exchange Program, including a 10-month curatorial internship at the Art Institute of Chicago and a seminar taught annually by one of its curators; the Suzanne Deal Booth Seminars in Conservation and Conservation Science and the Harrie A. Vanderstappen Distinguished Service Professorship in Chinese Art History, which is currently held by Professor Wu Hung.
