In conjunction with Beyond Boundaries: Three Decades of Contemporary Chinese Art at the Smart, CAEA will co-sponsor two public programs featuring acclaimed contemporary artist Lu Yang. These programs are part of the artist’s short-term residency period at UChicago, sponsored by the Chicago Forum for Free Inquiry and Expression.

March 31, 2026, Cochrane-Woods Art Center (CWAC), Room 157, 4:00–5:30 PM: Lu Yang in conversation with Xin Wang (Curatorial Director, PACE Gallery), Dr. Leslie Kay (Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience, The University of Chicago), and Rodica-Livia Monnet (Full Professor, Université de Montréal). The event will be followed by a reception in the CWAC Lounge. 

April 1, 2026, Smart Museum of Art, 5:00–6:45 PM: Lu Yang in conversation with Wu Hung. This event will be followed by a reception at the Smart Museum.
