Anatole Upart

Biography

Anatole Upart is a PhD candidate specializing in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture. His dissertation, "Ruthenians in Early Modern Rome: Art and Architecture of a Uniate Community, 1596 – 1750" examines art and the built environment of the national churches for Slavs in Rome, 1450-1750. He received his BFA in printmaking from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1999) and MA in art history from UIC (2011). During his undergrad years he worked as an intern and a research assistant at the Art Institute of Chicago (Prints and Drawings Department) on Soviet WWII propaganda posters. In 2016/2017 Anatole was a Fulbright Fellow in Italy at the Bibliotheca Hertziana.
