Saadia will present excerpts of sound and image from two works that deal with the topic of remote sensing in collaboration with archaeologists, glaciologists, and geophysicists. (Please use headphones to enjoy the sound fully). Saadia Mirza is a doctoral student in Anthropology at UChicago. She works in the field of new media and is an architect by background. Currently, she is an adjunct instructor at the Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), and an artist-in-residence at the Cité internationale des arts, Paris. Her interests and research range from landscape studies to the history of cartography, science and technology using animation, virtual reality and cartography. She works in collaboration with scientists and researchers, using new media to "un-blackbox" data sets that tell stories about war, conflict and climate change. She likes to pay attention to sensory impressions of digital sounds, images and textures and the process by which they create knowledge in a world of incomplete information.
