Luke Joyner

Biography

Luke Joyner is a teacher above all, having worked with every age from preschool to college at some point, including founding and directing education programs for youth in Chicago. He currently teaches architecture and urbanism not only as an assistant instructional professor at University of Chicago, but also to Chicago Public Schools students in intensive evening and summer programs. His interests include Chicago's common residential buildings, American vernacular architecture more generally, the relationship between small details of the built environment and their cities' wider evolution, narratives of the city in fiction and non-fiction, utopian and alternative urban plans, architectural drawing, and design education. He cares most about exploring places, and his studio classes always require a healthy amount of exploration. He received his Masters in Urban Design from CUNY in 2014.
